NCSVA – 2017 FLORIDA REGIONAL SERIES

The NCSVA – Florida Region will be running a series of Open & Championship tournaments in 2017.  Players will be awarded points based on their finishes that will help with seeding into regional tournaments and the Regional Championships.  Winners of the Regional Championships will receive a travel stipend to participate in the NCSVA National Championships in Southern California in late July.  NCSVA Florida Region Director, Wes Hawkins, will be hosting the tournaments primarily in Vero Beach, FL.

NCSVA Florida Director – Wes Hawkins

Wes Hawkins began his volleyball career in 2010 on the Men’s club team at University of North Carolina-Wilmington. Wes played four years, serving two as captain and Co- MVP of the team, and helped take his team to the semi-finals in the 2013 NCVF 1-AAA National Championship. He began his competitive beach career in the summer of 2012. Wes has since won multiple Open-Level Men’s and Co-ed events, and looks to continue his beach career in Florida.

Wes began coaching indoor in 2012 as an Assistant Coach at Cape Fear Volleyball Club in Wilmington, NC. In 2014, after serving as a head coach for two years, he became the Co-Coach at Westchester Country Day School in High Point, NC; and helped them to win their first conference title since 1984. He also served as a coach for Beach South Volleyball and Piedmont Volleyball Club. This year Wes has relocated to Florida and is currently coaching at Vero Beach Volleyball with ex-AVP and FIVB player Matt Heath. He looks forward to continue growing the game with NCSVA.

Wes graduated from University of North Carolina-Wilmington with a Bachelors in Communication and Entrepreneurship, and is currently an Event Director and Coach in Fort Pierce, Fl.

NCSVA REGIONAL RULES

Tournament Format
• Two-person men’s and women’s tournaments
• Match play: best 2 out of 3 games to 21 points
• Depending on the number of teams and courts, regional matches may be completed in one day or over multiple days

Pool Play
• Teams are placed into pools, 4 or 5 teams per pool
• Each team plays one match against all other teams in their pool
• The two teams with the best records in pool advance to a single elimination tournament

Playoffs
The top teams are seeded into a single elimination tournament based on their records from pool play.

Eligibility
Any student who attended, currently attends or is enrolled to attend a college during the school year. Incoming freshman and recent grads are eligible to play.

Point System
Players earn points at Regionals. Regional tournaments must have a minimum of 8 teams per gender to qualify as point-earning. Points are weighted based on the size of the regional tournament and the number of participating schools. For example, tournaments consisting of players from multiple schools will be awarded more points than a tournament consisting of players from just one school.
